Summer Days in Copenhagen

Summer Days in Copenhagen

I had the time of my life living and studying in Copenhagen. My boyfriend James came to visit me and we had a sunny long weekend exploring the city.

Day 1

Nyhavn

We started off our weekend with a typical Danish activity: drinking in the sun! When the sun comes out it is common to go and buy some cans and find a nice spot to enjoy them. It’s a great and much cheaper alternative to drinking in the expensive bars!

A popular spot is Nyhavn Canal, where we revelled in sunshine, great atmosphere and beers a fraction of the price.

Day 2

Brunch

We ate at one of my favourite spots in Copenhagen: The Laundromat. I had become very well acquainted with the place as I spent at least every other weekend here catching up with my washing! The staff here are super friendly and the coffee delicious, so we treated ourselves to a nice breakfast and iced coffee, completed with pancakes for desert.

Bike Ride

To burn off all the calories we took a bike ride through some of the beautiful scenery there is on offer here. Riding a bike is common place here and very easy! I wrote a whole post about the Pros, Cons, Tips and Tricks you need to know when riding in Copenhagen!

Christiana

Next stop was Christiania! It is a self-governing “free town” established in 1971 on the site of a military barrack. It’s a charming, beautiful, hippie community that had a really chilled and friendly vibe. Even despite the warning signs forbidding running, and photography!

We wandered around taking in the tourist stalls; eclectic markets; and vibrantly decorated homes. We even took a stroll down the ‘Weed Street’ or ‘The Green Light District’ where weed was openly sold. We didn’t buy any but I found it so surreal to experience it.

Finally, we settled by the lake and chilled for hours drinking cans of cheap beer. I really enjoyed it! Especially on a sunny day, it is glorious and beautiful.

Pedalos

On our way back into town, we spotted Pedalos. The wait was super long though, so we decided against it. Got some fabulous pictures though!

We then made our way to a dive bar. bloke outside was the bartender. It was dark, dingy and super cheap. As it was still lovely weather outside we had the place to ourselves for a good few hours. Great music, cheap beer and a good atmosphere. The bar got busier and busier until about 9pm when it was heaving! We made friends with some friendly Danes and stayed much later than planned, but worth it! We got a bit too drunk and had to metro back instead of bike….

Day 3

Frederiksberg

We went to the Frederiksberg Gardens for a picnic with some of my friends from dance! It’s an absolutely beautiful, lovely park perfect for spending a few hours in the sun. Adjacent to Copenhagen Zoo and home to the Frederiksberg Palace. And lots of ducks and geese!

Little Mermaid

I wasn’t underwhelmed because I had been told already it was underwhelming. It’s small and pretty. I liked it, even though it was so tiny. And of course the very long bike ride to get there was made better by the delicious coffee and ice cream!

Avengers!

Next, we went to go and watch the epic film Avengers. We went to the Valby Kino cinema, which was really cheap and comfortable. It was very small but it made no difference to the movie.

I LOVED the movie and spent most of it either crying, laughing or jumping around in my seat in excitement!

Day 4

Hot Dogs

We finished off the long weekend with a wander around my area, Hvidovre and found the Meat Market. Hotdogs – amazing!

Of course, there are loads of other amazing things to do in Copenhagen, we just didn’t have time! You can spend the day at Tivoli Gardens Theme Park; Copenhagens Nationalmuseet; Christiansborg Palace; or Rosenborg Castle to name a few.
